William Joseph "Bill" Freeman (American, 1927-2012). Untitled oil on canvas, ca. mid 20th century CE. A striking landscape painting depicting three deer promenading across the verdant foothills of a majestic mountain range of dreamy lavender hues with rose, lemon, sage, and peach highlights on the sun-facing areas as billowing white clouds roll throughout the azure skies above. All is executed in Freeman's signature style with sophisticated impasto and brushwork techniques. A picturesque landscape inhabited by a trio of deer, majestic animals that are among the most iconic wildlife of the American West. Size: 18" L x 24" W (45.7 cm x 61 cm)
Bill Freeman grew up in West Texas on a farm just outside of El Paso. Interestingly, he worked as a horse wrangler, fought forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service, and was a field researcher and guide for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for twelve years in Arizona, Wyoming, and New Mexico prior to becoming an artist. It was not until the age of 30 that Freeman decided to become an artist specializing in Western landscapes. Today he is considered a pioneer of Western art centered on such storied locales as Scottsdale, Arizona and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
While not signed, this painting is accompanied by a document confirming that it was created by Bill Freeman.
