Description:

Native American, western Alaska, Seward Peninsula, Shaktoolik Village, Yup'ik, Alutiiq / Sugpiaq people, ca. 1965 CE, signed by "Bekoalook". A striking dark green and grey banded soapstone carving of a hunter seated in a kayak. Expertly rendered with a silky smooth exterior, the hefty huntsman peers out with its incised eyes, with a heavy hooded coat wrapped around his circular face. About to strike his prey with a weapon, he raises his right arm back, while his left arm is bent to his side, perhaps to hold an oar. A lovely, action-packed example from Inuit culture! Size: 7" L x 2.5" W x 3.625" H (17.8 cm x 6.4 cm x 9.2 cm)
