Description:

Leah Garcia Nampeyo (Native American, 1928-1974), Southwest, Hopi, ca. 1960s CE. A beautiful polychrome pottery vessel created and signed on the bottom by Leah Garcia Nampeyo, the granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano, a daughter of Fannie Nampeyo and a sister of Elva Nampeyo, Tonita Nampeyo, Thomas Polacca, and Iris Youvella. Her children (James, Melda, and Rayvin) are also respected potters. The artist created an elegant ovoid form with a turned in shoulder, finely painted in hues of red, black and tan with a pattern reminiscent of the Nampeyo migration pattern. The design motifs are reminiscent of the Nampeyo era, named for the female artist who revived Pueblo pottery as an art form in the 20th century. A stunning example, signed by this reputable Hopi potter. Size: 8.25" W x 3.75" H (21 cm x 9.5 cm)
