Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, late Moche to Sican/Lambayeque culture, ca. 650 to 1000 CE. A fascinating pottery vessel in the form of a bound prisoner, depicted nude save for a collar on his clavicle and a towering, conical cap that doubles as a spout. The figure sits cross-legged with a prominent phallus between his legs; his arms tied at his back as his large eyes gaze forward, flanked by a pair of huge ears that grant him an almost simian appearance. Faint remains of fine-line decoration adorn the surface featuring 2 long-beaked birds and a pair of spiral motifs on the back of his right shoulder and geometric designs across his chest. Size: 3.6" W x 8" H (9.1 cm x 20.3 cm)
