Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican-Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel with dual chambers, either rectangular or spherical in form, conjoined via a central channel. Presented in cream and crimson hues, the vessel features a conical spout that creates a high-pitched whistling sound from the opposite end of the handle when air is blown in. Atop the rectangular chamber is a pair of royal attendants balancing a cache chest atop the back of a third, prone attendant, each with a red-hued face as well as pale-yellow eyes and lips. Size: 7" L x 4.125" W x 6.3" H (17.8 cm x 10.5 cm x 16 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired with restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions, fading to pigments, light earthen deposits, chips to handle and spout tip, and surface roughness in scattered areas. Nice preservation to figural forms. Whistle still emits high-pitched sound when air is blown into the spout.
