Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Sican to Chimu, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A hand-carved wooden ceremonial vessel of spectacular form bearing a pair of false spouts projecting up as the horns from heads of abstract creatures. Each side of the body features a scene with a figure walking through an incised gateway flanked by large birds, and with petite shell and stone beads inlaid throughout. The avian-laden handle is decorated with additional geometric and inlaid adornments, and the foot is embellished with inlays across the mountain-themed program. Rich brown patina has developed across the vessel. Size: 3.75" L x 6.5" W x 7.3" H (9.5 cm x 16.5 cm x 18.5 cm)
