A fabulous blackware vessel surmounted by a conical spout in the form of the head of Naylamp - the traditional hero founder of the Lambayeque and god of the underworld - with a trophy head dangling from each wing-shaped ear. A ribbon-form handle arches up from the back of his head, topped with a seated bird, and a pair of felines flank the head of the lord - perhaps protecting the deity. The flared foot is additionally embellished by relief imagery of dotted and steppe motif designs. Size: 5.8" L x 5.6" W x 7.3" H (14.7 cm x 14.2 cm x 18.5 cm)
