Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Lambayeque Valley, Sican-Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1375 CE. An intriguing blackware pottery ocarina with a crescent-shaped body and grooved ringlets adorning each exterior protrusion. Seated on the top of the instrument is a stylized figure with outstretched arms and a grand, tumi-shaped headdress, perhaps representative of Naylamp (also Naymlap, Nanlap, or Nylamp), the traditional founder of the Lambayeque dynasty. Three finger holes are situated in front of the figure and a tone hole is pierced through the back tip of the instrument. Size: 10.5" L x 5.25" W x 6.9" H (26.7 cm x 13.3 cm x 17.5 cm)
