Description:

Western Europe, Germany, Drugendorf (Oberpfalz), Upper Jurassic (Malm), ca. 154 to 144 million years ago. From the Upper Jurassic Period, this is a beautiful ancient ocean life fossil group showing finely preserved shells from prehistoric bivalve oysters, belemnites (squid-like cephalopods), and ammonites. These fossilized together in what is often called a "life assemblage" because the stone matrix contains a once living community of creatures that died while they were behaving as the normally would - likely hit by a sudden "catastrophic mass mortality" event. Entombed and professionally excavated in their original host stone, a multitude of fossils can be seen on all sides. With its enormous proportions and stunning aesthetic, this would make a fantastic interior accent piece. Size: 22" L x 3" W x 18" H (55.9 cm x 7.6 cm x 45.7 cm)
