Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Oaxaca, Zapotec, ca. 200 to 700 CE. An ensemble of seven exuberantly expressive terracotta heads created by the Zapotec culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. By in large they boast human visages, but some display animorphic features or perhaps masks. The elaborate details were created via hand and mould-work. A fabulous representations of visual culture from Mesoamerica. Set within a lucite shadow box. Size: shadow box measures 14-3/8 x 11-3/8" x 3-5/8" (36.5 x 28.9 x 9.2 cm); largest at top center measures 4-1/4" x 3-1/2" (10.8 x 8.9 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Hooper collection, CA, acquired via family descent.
