Description:

Charles Betts (C.B.) Waite (American, 1861-1927), nine double-sided (18 total) photographs (most black and white and some sepia tone) mounted on cardstock, ca. 1900 CE. Charles Betts (also known as C.B. and mistakenly called Charles Burlingame) was a Californian photographer during the 1880-90s - taking photos of Southern California landscapes, missions, and sights in other western states prior to going to Mexico in 1896. There C.B. opened his own studio in Mexico City and stayed until 1913. During his time in Mexico, Waite was a very prolific photographer - addressing various themes such as landscapes, citiscapes, famous landmarks, flora, and fauna - during the Porfiriato (reign of President Porfirio Diaz). Among our favorites in this group are "Mexican Wood Sellers" featuring three donkeys carrying bundles of wood and "Seven Falls, Cheyenne Canon" in Colorado Springs. Size: most photos measures 5" L x 8" W (12.7 cm x 20.3 cm), one is slightly smaller
