Coptic, Egypt, ca. 3rd to 6th centuries CE. Brown on tan background, each rectangular panel comprised of scenes of birds, animals and humans looking quite happy and animated! Using intricate patterns and vivid colors, Coptic weavers created masterpieces of textile art. Coptic textiles, used for rugs, wall hangings and clothing appliqués, were exported throughout the Roman and Byzantine empires. Coptic tunics and shawls were standard garments during this time. Framed piece measures 14" x 12". Ready to display! Provenance: Ex-James Newton Estate, TX.
