Greece, Ca 4th to 3rd century BCE. A truly sensual pottery fragment! Tan pottery section of the Greek nymph Arethusa, daughter of Nereus. She stands with her weight on her left hip, right hand holding her long tresses, the tail of a dolphin strategically placed over her pubis. Custom mount. 3.50"W x 2.25"H (8.89 W x 5.72 H cm) Provenance: Ex-Collection of William Dale. Mr. Dale was a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960's and acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures.
