Description:

Medieval Middle East/Central Asia, Persia, modern day Turkey, Seljuk (Seljuq) Empire, ca. 11th to 12th century CE. A cast brass shield boss embellished with geometric and zoomorphic motifs. The piece also features a hemispherical boss at its center with a flat flange rim around it. The center of the flange is decorated with repeating embossed lions and ovoid shapes, while the outer rim has a embossed rounded motif. The central boss is adorned by geometric triangular shapes and a fluted top that narrows to a flat surface, now perforated. Shield bosses were attached to the center of a shield to deflect blows. A stunning piece for battle that has developed a mottled green patina over the ages. Size: 10.5" Diameter x 2.5" H (26.7 cm x 6.4 cm)
