Description:

Central Asia, Scythian / Siberian, ca. 5th century BCE. A pretty ancient bracelet, made from a band of silver wire curled into an ovoid form, ending in snake-headed terminals with incised lines forming eyes and snout, and a lightly-stippled texture that suggests scales. The Scythians are famous for their metalwork, and rightly so; hoards of their treasures have been found throughout eastern and central Europe and western and central Asia. These hoards may represent gifts that were made to foreign rulers, votive offerings, or treasures buried and forgotten. Other precious metal artifacts from this culture are found in their incredibly rich graves; according to Scythian tradition, warriors (both male and female) were buried alongside their servants and horses, with weapons, harnesses, and personal adornments. Size: 2.25" L x 3" W (5.7 cm x 7.6 cm); inner Size: 1.5" L x 2.5625" W (3.8 cm x 6.5 cm); 35.7 grams
