Eleudora Jimenez Quispe (Peruvian, Ayacucho, b. 1967) & Mabilon Jimenez Quispe (Peruvian, Ayacucho, b. 1970) wood & plaster mirror, ca. 2007 CE. A beautiful wood and glass mirror decorated with intricate plaster market stalls of fruit sellers, masks, toys, and colorful dancers and musicians below. The plaster is a special mixture that contains potatoes and entirely hand-sculpted then painted in vibrant tempura paints. This piece was made by two children of Florentino Jimenez Toma, a celebrated Peruvian Quechua craftsman known for his beautiful retablos. His daughter, Eleudora, was one of the first female retablo artists in Peru, and she and her younger brother, Mabilon, collaborated on this piece.
