Description:

Ancient Near East, Sassanian (also Sasanian, Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A collection of 4 stone intaglios and stamp seals carved from a white chalcedony and orange carnelian stones. Two are intaglios for setting in a ring - one with a large bird and the other with a pair of monkeys and a tree. The chalcedony seal has a standing figure - perhaps a worshipper or deity, and the carnelian seal has a winged cupid-like figure. Both seals are pierced for suspension. Size of chalcedony seal: 0.75" Diameter x 0.43" W (1.9 cm x 1.1 cm)
