Description:

Ancient Near East, Sassanian (Sasanian, Sasanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. An intriguing three-sided stamp seal, hand-carved from translucent quartz. The seal is perforated lengthwise with a suspension hole, and each of the three faces depicts a stylized animal - a zebu bull with a large hump atop its back; a striding lion with a curled tail and a raised head; and a mythical winged horse with a bowed head and a single feathered wing. The seal is mounted within a modern silver (69-76%) setting with forked arms emanating from a central body and suspension loop. Custom putty impressions included. Size: 0.65" L x 0.625" W (1.7 cm x 1.6 cm); quality of silver: 69-76%.

  • Condition: Seal mounted inside silver setting in modern times. Seal is ancient, and silver setting is modern. Minor nicks and encrustations to stamp seal, with minor softening to some zoomorphic details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice traces of original imagery.
