Description:

Ancient Near East/Central Asia, Sasanian (Sassanian/Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A black stamp seal bead with a flat, ovoid face and a domed body pierced through for suspension. The face has been incised to feature two zoomorphs - probably ibexes - standing across from each other with a symmetrical tree between them. These symbols probably represent a specific clan or tribe. The domed body of the bead is also decorated - with a series of raised discs reminiscent of Sasanian faceted glass. Size: 0.95" W x 0.7" H (2.4 cm x 1.8 cm); 2.45" H (6.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood New Jersey, USA, collected before 2004
