Description:

Sasanian Empire, modern day Iran, ca. 591 to 628 CE. This is a silver drachm from the reign of Khusro (Khosrau) II of the Sasanian Empire; his reign marked the end of the "Second Golden Era" and the beginning of the decline of that empire. This is from the mint of Hormizd Ardashiran (today the city of Ahvaz). The coin depicts the crowned but of the king on one side and, on the obverse, a classic Zoroastrian fire altar with two attendants. Size: 1" in diameter (2.5 cm).
