Description:

Ancient Near East, late Sasanian to early Islamic Period, ca. 7th to 9th century CE. A charming free-blown glass vessel with applied trailing designs. This vessel has developed white and beige weathering film that covers most of the surface, though with areas where the green glass still shines through. It sits on an applied ring base, and the spherical body rises upward to the narrow neck and flared lip. On the exterior walls, lovely trails of glass wrap partway around the neck then diagonally downward, crossing around the body, forming three loops with applied circles in the center. Furthermore, its dainty size makes this piece even more endearing! Size: 2.125" W x 2.5" H (5.4 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA, acquired February 10, 1998; ex-Kamyas Gallery
