Sandy Scott (American, b. 1943). "Running Buck" etching on paper, n.d. Edition 83 of 100. Hand-signed with title, number, and embossed artist initials beneath image. A lovely etching by American artist Sandy Scott depicting a buck in a meadow with hind-legs bent as though about to dash out of view. Shown in profile facing right, the strong animal attentively raises his head, his ears tucked back as though on high alert as a magnificent set of antlers rises above his pointed snout. Gatherings of blades of grass and stones are scattered throughout the field. An avid outdoors woman who has studios in both Wyoming and Ontario Lake Country, Sandy Scott considers it an honor to portray wildlife in her art. In her words, "The process of bringing sculpture and nature together in an outdoor setting is dreamwork for most sculptors, myself included." Size of etching: 5" W x 3.5" H (12.7 cm x 8.9 cm); of paper: 5.75" W x 4.5" H (14.6 cm x 11.4 cm); of frame: 13.25" W x 12.25" H (33.7 cm x 31.1 cm)
"Sandy Scott received her formal art training at the Kansas City Art Institute and later worked as an animation background artist for the motion picture industry. She turned her attention to etchings and printmaking in the 1970's and to sculpture in the 1980's. Born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1943 and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she is now headquartered in Lander, Wyoming near the foundry that casts her bronzes and she maintains a studio on Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada."
