Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, San Ildefonso Pueblo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A pair of handmade blackware vessels crafted by early San Ildefonso potters: a bowl signed 'Anna' and a smaller cup signed 'Rosalie + Joe.' Both pieces are highly burnished with matte pigments painted over the surface. The bowl was created by renowned San Ildefonso potter Maximiliana Montoya Martinez (1885-1955), who signed her work as Anna. The petite cup is by the husband-and-wife duo Joe Aguilar (1898-1965) and Rosalie Simbola Aguilar (1898-1947), who were active between the 1920s and 1940s. Their work is highly sought after by collectors. Size of bowl: 5.5" Diameter x 3" H (14 cm x 7.6 cm).
