Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 1800 CE. A very large and extensively detailed processional icon made from cast brass with remains of black enamel highlights featuring a central Crucifixion scene of Jesus on the Cross with two angels and God the Father looking down from above followed by the Virgin Orans (of the Sign), and the Mother of God surrounded by the four Evangelists arranged in the shape of a cross. Bordering the arched upper end are twenty two seraphim, and numerous biblical scenes from the Bible to either side of the Cross complete the piece. Striking and large! Size: 9.25" W x 15.25" H (23.5 cm x 38.7 cm)
