Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. What an amusing and quite naught "little" fellow we have here. Small figure of a man striding his enormous phallus, right hand to his face in a pose that seems to shout - lookie what I found! - with his left hand positioned between his spread cheeks. He wears a tunic from neck to his waist and a Phrygian style cap. Scenes such as this often depict the young Horus, however, the face here has more of the countenance of an older man - possibly a representation of Dionysus/ Bacchus. Areas of original pigment, especially on reverse. Size: 2.5" W x 2.5" H (6.4 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Superior, Colorado, USA collection acquired at Sarkisian Gallery, Denver, Co. Ex Sarkisian collection, around 1955.
