Description:

Egypt, probably Alexandria, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A mold-formed pottery figure of the Egyptian dwarf god Bes standing nude atop an integral rectangular plinth. The portly Bes presents with a phallus curving towards his left knee and holds a petite item beneath his right arm while supporting a cone-topped amphora in his left arm. His countenance exhibits piercing eyes beneath furrowed brows, a tongue protruding from his mouth, and a shaggy, corded beard that is said to resemble a lion's mane. Traces of white pigment are visible across the composition. Size: 3.375" W x 6.25" H (8.6 cm x 15.9 cm)
