Description:

Egypt, Roman period, ca. 30 BCE. A beautifully detailed, large terracotta head wearing a conical hat with long waved hair and smiling expression. Face with plump features and dimpled cheeks, the pupils of the eyes depressed. The body below the neck is missing. The waved hair In the back falls on the shoulders to a low cut gown. Size: 7-1/8"H (18,1 cm) + custom early 20th C. English oak stand with nice graining which adds to its provenance.

Provenance: Acquired at Sotheby's London, 17 April 1972, Lot 122, by present owner. Previously in an old English collection as evidenced by the period wooden mount.
