Description:

Ancient Art. Egyptian, pre-Coptic, ca. 2nd century CE. A lovely bichrome textile presenting a decorative pattern comprised of star-like motifs circumscribed by oval borders alternating with X-like forms adorned with leaf or feather-like motifs - all delineated in tawny almond on a chocolate brown ground. Custom framed under glass and floating on a linen mat. Size: textile measures 17.875" L x 2.875" W (45.4 cm x 7.3 cm); 21.875" L x 6.75" W (55.6 cm x 17.1 cm) framed

Many of the Roman textiles that we know of come from Egypt because the dry desert heat preserved them well. Textiles were an important part of Roman household life - used to make rugs, curtains, cushions, bedcovers, and table linens. Textiles were also highly valued, because they were difficult and painstaking to produce.
