Description:

Egyptian / Classical, Ptolemaic to Roman period, ca. 100 BCE. Very interesting god that demonstrates the interplay of Egyptian and Classical Greek culture. When Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, the Egyptian god Horus was appropriated to become the Greek god Harpocrates (meaning "Horus the child"), who personified the newborn sun every day. This small statue depicts the infant god but is modelled on the body of a cupid figure complete with Egyptian crown and sidelock. Size: 1/4"L x 1-1/2"W x 2-1/4"H.
