Description:

Ancient Art. Romano-Egyptian, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A sweet and petite 24 karat gold pendant depicting a bee from the Romano Egyptian period - with mesmerizing details on both sides and an integral suspension loop. According to Egyptian mythology, bees were born of the sun god Ra's tears, appearing as the tears landed on the desert sand. It is also possible that the symbolism of the bee derived from Greco-Roman understandings. Apollo's talent for prophecy came to him via three bee maidens, associated with a trinity Aegean bee goddesses. In addition, Aristaeus was the god of bee keeping. A stunning or dare I say 'stinging' piece of wearable art! Weight: .3 grams. Size: 0.45" L x 0.3" W (1.1 cm x 0.8 cm).
