Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A hand-blown yellow glass sprinkler flask with a concave base and rough pontil, a conical body with a tapered neck, a large constriction rim, and a pair of applied, undulating trail handles. The body displays dozens of pattern-molded ribs on the exterior. There is a constricted opening just above the neck -- hence the name "sprinkler flask" -- as it was meant to conservatively dispense perfumes and other scented oils that weren't meant to be applied liberally. The rim also aids in mitigating the flow of liquids, allowing for any excess to be easily poured back into the flask. Areas of fiery rainbow-hued iridescence complement the yellow body coloration with hues of primarily sapphire, amethyst, and emerald. This flask is just as elegant as the sweet-smelling substances it contained! Size: 3.75" W x 3.75" H (9.5 cm x 9.5 cm).
