Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-made ceramic vessel in the form of a nude, young woman, shown with her hair drawn up, her chest exposed, and her arms down at her sides. She has a chubby, child-like face that contrasts with her woman's body. A tall, conical spout with a rolled rim rises from the top of her head, with a very thin handle connecting at the back of the head and near the top of the spout. Vessels in the form of young women's heads or busts were popular in Classical funerary contexts, from the Etruscans, Greeks, and Romans, perhaps because young women played an important role as mourners. Size: 5.1" W x 9.9" H (13 cm x 25.1 cm)
