Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A hollow-molded terracotta votive figure depicting a youthful boy sitting nude with his right leg raised to his shoulder. He wears bangles around both wrists and ankles and holds his left arm atop his corresponding thigh in a resting pose. His downcast visage exhibits almond-shaped eyes, a slender nose, and full lips centered between fleshy cheeks, and his brow is topped with a short, high-cropped coiffure. Traces of orange and white pigment suggest this figure was finely decorated with vibrant pigments when first created. Size: 2.6" W x 3.6" H (6.6 cm x 9.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Dere Family Collection, NYC, NY acquired in the 1980s.
