Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A mold-formed terracotta oil lamp covered in pale-orange slip. The lamp is defined by a circular base, gradually-expanding walls, a sloped shoulder leading inward to a recessed tondo with a small fill hole, and a large wick spout with lateral protrusions. Within the tondo is a depiction of a standing cherub with a slender body, outstretched wings, and a hemispheric head, with one arm bent to his waist, and the other holding a large coiling staff. Size: 2.625" W x 1.1" H (6.7 cm x 2.8 cm).
