Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine oil lamp that is mold-formed from terracotta and covered with vibrant red-orange slip. The lamp exhibits a circular base with a bullseye motif, a circular body with a rounded shoulder, a shallow tondo with a narrow fill hole, and a tapered, rounded wick spout. Presented within the recessed tondo is a majestic eagle standing with outstretched wings and holding a laurel wreath in the beak of its left-turned head. Size: 2.7" W x 1" H (6.9 cm x 2.5 cm)
