Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A wonderful pottery oil lamp featuring a concave tondo with the relief image of a hunting dog fighting a wild boar beside a tree. A petite fill hole is featured beneath the boar, while all is surrounded by a tongued pattern with volutes flanking the spout. The scene may refer to the hunt of the mythical Calydonian boar, which was sent by the goddess Artemis as a punishment for the king of the Greek city Calydon. Size: 3.9" L x 2.7" W x 1.2" H (9.9 cm x 6.9 cm x 3 cm)
