Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed pottery applique of an actor's mask depicting an elderly male, perhaps Hercules (Greek Herakles) with a bushy beard surrounding his gaping mouth. His furrowed brow curves high above perforated eyes and sharp nose, and a shaggy coiffure is hidden beneath a leonine cap. Size: 2.1" W x 3.125" H (5.3 cm x 7.9 cm)
