Rome, ca. 1st century CE. Terracotta antefix in the form of an upright palmette emerging from the head of Medusa. The palmette with a straight central and curled sideward petals. The round face of the gorgoneion with wide almond-shaped eyes, scalloped hair and a faint grimacing smile. The frontal head is flanked by scrolling. 9.1"H.   • Condition: Head of Medusa slightly blurred as an effect of an often used mold. Left edge of the bottom chipped and tile at rear missing. The surface with calcareous soil deposits and dendrite-like black spots.
