Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Late Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 4th century CE. A beautiful silver ring (96% silver) presenting an ovoid table presenting a bust of a frontally facing figure with an expressive visage and a wavy coiffure - the hair perhaps comprised of writhing snakes pertaining to Medusa - surrounded by a rope-patterned border. Interestingly, on the verso is a kneeling figure - perhaps zoomorphic - in low relief. The shank presents a beautiful tight coil motif that resonates with the serpentine coiffure of Medusa. Size: ovoid table measures .75" L x .5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm); opening measures .75" L x .875" W (1.9 cm x 2.2 cm); US ring size 7.5; weight: 3.8 grams.
