Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A lovely silver ring with a thin band, gradually-widening shoulders, and a flat face with an ovoid bezel. A deep-red jasper intaglio is set within the bezel and bears an incised depiction of a standing Venus (Greek Aphrodite), her upper body nude and lower body covered with the lower portion of a chiton. She holds a small apple in her outstretched left arm, symbolic of her exceeding beauty. A beautiful and wearable example of ancient jewelry! Amethyst fragments for photography purposes only.
