Description:

Roman, Late Imperial Period, ca. first half of the 4th century CE. A gorgeous high-quality silver ring with a rhombus-shaped presentation, a thick band with a flat bottom, acutely-angled sides, and faceted shoulders tracing upwards to an octagonal bezel setting. Within the bezel is an octagonal citrine intaglio of warm orange hues depicting an incised "Chi Rho," the monogram for Jesus Christ. Unusual to the monogram is how the "P" is turned backwards and how the two letters are not set atop one another. A beautiful and wearable example from ancient Rome! Amethyst fragment for photography purposes only. Size (ring): 1.1" W x 0.9" H (2.8 cm x 2.3 cm); size (intaglio): 0.25" W x 0.125" H (0.6 cm x 0.3 cm); silver quality: 98.5%; total weight: 8.8 grams; US ring size 6.75.
