Not to be confused with Marcus Brutus, Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus (ca. 85 to 43 BCE) was a Roman politician and general who was one of the chief conspirators in plotting the assassination of Julius Caesar. Sadly for Caesar, Brutus was a distant cousin whom Caesar stated he loved like a son. He served under Caesar and was given command of the Roman fleet in the war against the Veneti in 56 BCE. After Caesar crossed the Rubicon and became a dictator, Brutus played a major role in his murder, and ultimately was executed himself while fleeing Rome in the turmoil that arose after Caesar's death.
