Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Made from rough redware, this sculpture depicts a nude, corpulent figure reclining on a couch. This was the standard pose for a Roman enjoying a banquet. The banquet was one of the most frequently-depicted activities in Classical art - a pan-Mediterranean tradition of opulent eating and drinking alongside music, dance, poetry, and conversation. Size: 2.55" L x 7.9" W x 4.25" H (6.5 cm x 20.1 cm x 10.8 cm); 5.3" H (13.5 cm) on included custom stand.
