Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful hollow-cast pottery head of a young Eros, the winged cherub most often associated with passion, attraction, and love. The head is composed of puffy cheeks, full lips beneath a broad nose, and almond eyes with stylized pupils. A full head of hair covers the majority of the head, and a pair of petite wings are situated just above the forehead, perhaps symbolic of the wings a full-size statue of the deity would exhibit. Covered in a beautiful red-orange slip, this is a fabulous example from ancient Rome! Size: 2.25" W x 3" H (5.7 cm x 7.6 cm).
