Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant and well-preserved wheel-thrown red-slip flagon with a thick base, a wide flaring body with a rolled shoulder, a short, tubular neck with a wide, flared rim, and a pair of arching strap handles with incised linear designs. Primarily used to contain wine or other consumable liquids, flagons were invented to provide hydrations to field laborers or rowers aboard ships. Size: 5.5" W x 6" H (14 cm x 15.2 cm)
