Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 100 CE. A fabulous and stylish necklace comprised of sixty-three spherical red carnelian beads displaying a palette of colors in citrine, umber, ruby, grapefruit, topaz, crimson, and maroon hues. The intricate beadwork is arranged with the smallest beads nearest to the terminals and then growing in size towards the middle. Set with modern stringing and secured with a gold-filled S-hook on one end and a petite suspension loop on the other. A gorgeous and wearable example! Size (necklace): 25" L (63.5 cm); size (largest bead): 0.75" in diameter (1.9 cm).
