Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-made, hollow, earthenware votive figure of a nude man on a horse. The man is a youth, athletic, with an unbearded face. The horse is stylized, with cropped mane and tail, and its feet are molded into a rectangular pedestal. Who the statue represents is unknown - perhaps it is just generally glorifying youth and athletic achievement. Statuary of nude youths on horses was common in Rome, from votive figures like this one to monumental statues like one found near Rome and held by the British Museum (1864,1021.2). Size: 4.75" L x 3" W x 7.2" H (12.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 18.3 cm)
