Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A bright red, polished terra sigillata-ware fragment from a vessel featuring two male figures - one crouched, with only the back and side of his body visible, the other standing nude with one arm raised and the other resting against his side as he looks down at the first figure. The body of terra sigillata wares were typically cast in molds. Relief designs like the ones we see in this example were also usually cast in molds that were then impressed with stamps to attain the desired figurative scenes and later applied to the vessels. Size: 3.1" W x 2.2" H (7.9 cm x 5.6 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) on included custom stand.
