Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A lovely mold-formed pottery oil lamp with a circular foot and illegible planta pedis, rounded walls, a planar shoulder ringed with concentric circles, a small fill hole within the recessed tondo, and a spade-shaped wick spout flanked by volutes. Within the tondo is a raised depiction of a boxer, shown nude with his right leg extended, his right arm extended out slightly further than his left in a jabbing motion. The lamp is covered with espresso-hued slip which makes it an elegant example of utilitarian Roman sculpture! Size: 2.8" W x 0.875" H (7.1 cm x 2.2 cm).
