Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A mold formed piece of pottery with superb detail! A flat base with incised ring around the planta pedis letters "KPHCKENT OC." An egg and dart pattern split by a bar on both sides and two concentric rings tops the recessed tondo. The bas-relief boar is standing in profile above the fill hole. The hairs are individually detailed, and the image is clear. A handle with two curvilinear lines is opposite the wick spout. Boars were commonly hunted and known for their formidable nature, and capturing a giant boar was one of the labors of Hercules. This is a finely detailed piece of Roman animal imagery! Size: 4.675" L x 3.375" W x 1.75" H (11.9 cm x 8.6 cm x 4.4 cm)
